70. Forever In Their Debt
We've been blessed beyond our years
So much more than our peers
They worked for us through suffering and pain
Hoping we'd never have to retrace their lane
The people who came before us, like our parents and grandparents most likely had a tougher and harder life than us. If we think about a time when people couldn’t afford to buy telephones let alone cars, life must have been very different than it is now, but were people back then better off than people now?
Medically speaking, they were much worse off than people nowadays, mainly because the life expectancy was much lower, due to poor standards of food, a lack of proper medical care and having to work harder at a younger age to support larger families.
In their defence, I would say people back then lived a less stressful life than us, due to not having to travel to work, as most people worked not far from home and the lack of technology to deal with like computers and the internet.
Summarising living back then compared to now, we definitely have things a lot easier. But do we really appreciate our forefather's sacrifices? A few would say yes, I do, but the majority would blatantly say I didn’t ask to be born, so I’ve got nothing to thank them for.
